Engineering admissions in Maharashtra have grown again. Data released by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell shows that 1,81,927 students took admission to engineering colleges in the state for the 2026-27 academic year. That is 15,181 more than the 1,66,746 admissions in 2025-26.

Seats were filled through four Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds, followed by an institute-level round.
SPPU colleges admitted the most students
Colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) admitted 64,822 students, the most among the state’s 17 universities and more than a third of all engineering admissions in Maharashtra. Pune’s concentration of engineering colleges keeps it the state’s biggest engineering education hub. Popular Pune colleges on EduMap India include COEP Tech, PICT, VIT Pune and PCCOE.
Computer Engineering stays on top
Computer Engineering was the most popular branch, with 28,170 admissions. Computing and related branches such as IT, AI & Data Science and Computer Science & Business Systems continue to fill fastest, while some core branches still have seats left after CAP.
What this means for 2027 aspirants
- Competition for computing seats at top colleges stays high. Aim for a strong MHT CET percentile, or use a JEE Main score, which is also accepted in the CAP rounds.
- Look beyond the top 10 colleges. With 387 colleges, there are good options in Mumbai and Pune if you shortlist carefully. Compare autonomy, NAAC grade and NIRF band.
- Take part in every CAP round. Seats open up in later rounds as students upgrade or withdraw.
