BITSAT

Overview

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test, or BITSAT, is conducted by BITS Pilani, a deemed university. It is held once a year in two sessions, usually in April and May, as a 3-hour computer-based test at centres across India. Candidates can write one or both sessions, and the better score is used for admission.

What BITSAT is used for

• B.E. programmes: admission to engineering branches at the BITS Pilani campuses in Pilani (Rajasthan), K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad.
• Integrated M.Sc. and B.Pharm: the same test (with Biology in place of Mathematics for B.Pharm) covers BITS’ other first degree programmes.
• Dual degree: M.Sc. students can later add a B.E. degree based on first-year performance, so the entrance score decides your starting programme, not your final one.
• Direct admission: first-rank holders of central and state boards are admitted directly to a programme of their choice without BITSAT.

Counselling and seat allotment

BITS runs its own admission process; there is no central counselling. After the exam, candidates submit a separate admission application on bitsadmission.com with their Class 12 marks and an ordered list of campus and programme preferences. Admission is made purely on BITSAT score (subject to meeting the Class 12 eligibility), and BITS publishes an admit list followed by several iterations through June and July, upgrading or offering seats as others withdraw. Selected candidates confirm their seat online and report to the campus with their Class 12 mark sheet, BITSAT score card and ID proof.

Important dates

BITSAT 2027 dates have not been announced yet (as of 25 September 2026); BITS usually opens registration in December on bitsadmission.com. For reference, BITSAT 2026 registration opened on 15 December 2025, Session 1 was held on 15–16 April 2026 (results 29 April) and Session 2 on 25–27 May 2026 (results 9 June), with admission iterations running into July.

Eligibility

Passed Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (Physics, Chemistry and Biology for B.Pharm), and adequate proficiency in English. You need at least 75% aggregate in PCM (or PCB) and at least 60% in each of these subjects.

Only candidates passing Class 12 in the current year, or who passed in the previous year, can apply; those who were admitted to BITS earlier are not eligible again. There is no domicile or state quota, and no age limit.

Syllabus

BITSAT covers Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology), plus English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning, as per the 2026 BITSAT brochure. Every question is an MCQ worth +3, with −1 for a wrong answer, for a total of 130 questions and 390 marks. Candidates who finish all 130 questions early may attempt 12 extra questions, but cannot go back to earlier answers once they do.
