Overview
The VIT Engineering Entrance Examination, or VITEEE, is conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), a deemed university. It is held once a year, over several days in late April and early May, as a 2½-hour computer-based test at centres across India and a few cities abroad. Candidates book their own date and slot after registering.
What VITEEE is used for
- B.Tech at all VIT campuses: one VITEEE rank is used for VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT-AP (Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh) and VIT Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh).
- Two streams: the MPCEA paper (with Mathematics) is for all B.Tech programmes, while the BPCEA paper (with Biology) is for the Bio-Engineering and Biotechnology-type programmes open to biology students.
- Rank-based choice: a better rank gives you earlier access to popular branches and to the Vellore and Chennai campuses in counselling.
Counselling and seat allotment
VIT runs its own online counselling, which usually starts a few days after the results in May. Candidates are called in phases by rank range; in each phase they log in, choose a campus and programme from the seats still available, and confirm the seat online. Seats are allotted strictly by VITEEE rank and availability. After allotment, candidates upload or show their Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, VITEEE rank card and ID proof, and report to the allotted campus.
Important dates
VITEEE 2027 dates have not been announced yet (as of 25 September 2026); VIT usually opens applications in late October or November on viteee.vit.ac.in. For reference, VITEEE 2026 applications ran from 24 October 2025 to 12 April 2026, the exam was held from 28 April to 3 May 2026, results were declared on 8 May 2026 and counselling began in the second week of May.

Eligibility
Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised board, or an equivalent such as IB, A-Levels or GCE, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (MPCEA) or Physics, Chemistry and Biology (BPCEA). You need at least 60% aggregate in PCM or PCB (50% for SC/ST candidates and candidates from the North-Eastern states, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh).
There is no domicile requirement. For 2026 the age rule was birth on or after 1 July 2004; the 2027 limit will be in the new bulletin.

Syllabus
VITEEE covers Class 11 and 12 Mathematics (or Biology), Physics and Chemistry, plus Aptitude and English, as per the 2026 information bulletin. From 2026 VIT introduced negative marking: each correct answer earns +4 and each wrong answer −1, with no marks for unanswered questions. There are 125 MCQs for a total of 500 marks.
