Girijananda Chowdhury University (GUIST), Guwahati

Overview

Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati (formerly Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology) was established in 2007 under the aegis of Shrimanta Sankar Academy Society and later granted private university status. Based in Guwahati, Assam, it has grown into one of the larger private technical education providers in the Northeast, with engineering, pharmacy, management and paramedical programmes.

The university is UGC-recognised and its engineering programmes are AICTE-approved, offering B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, along with a well-regarded Pharmacy programme. The institution has built a reputation as a significant private higher-education provider within Assam given the limited number of private universities historically operating in the state.

Admission to B.Tech programmes is through Assam state counselling based on JEE Main scores, with a share of seats also available under the management quota. The campus provides hostel accommodation, laboratories and a placement cell that connects students primarily to regional employers along with some national recruiters visiting the Northeast.
