Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) was established in 1994, the sixth IIT and the first in the North-East. Its campus is at Amingaon in North Guwahati, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, with hills on one side and the river on the other. The Saraighat bridge links it to the main city, and Guwahati’s airport and railway station are within reach by road.
IIT Guwahati is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 8. B.Tech programmes cover computer science, mathematics and computing, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, biosciences and bioengineering, engineering physics, and data science and AI, along with a B.Des programme. The campus is fully residential, with hostels for all undergraduate students.
Admission to B.Tech is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling after candidates first qualify JEE Main; B.Des admission is through UCEED. Eligibility
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.
Admission process
Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Guwahati are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank. B.Des admission is through UCEED.
