Overview
North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong was established in 1973 by an Act of Parliament as a central university to serve the entire northeastern region of India, with its main campus in Shillong, Meghalaya, and a former sister campus that became Mizoram University.
NEHU is a central university and its programmes are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across humanities, sciences, social sciences, management and law, with a particular research focus on northeastern tribal culture, languages and biodiversity.
