Overview
R.M.K. Engineering College (RMKEC) was established in 1995 at RSM Nagar, Kavaraipettai, in the Gummidipoondi taluk of Thiruvallur district, on the Chennai–Kolkata highway north of the city. It belongs to the RMK group, which also runs R.M.D. Engineering College and R.M.K. College of Engineering and Technology in the same area. The campus sits in a quieter, semi-rural setting beyond the city’s northern suburbs, close to the Gummidipoondi industrial area.
RMKEC is an autonomous college affiliated to Anna University, holding autonomy for the 2020–21 to 2029–30 period, a NAAC A+ grade and NBA accreditation for its programmes. It is placed in the NIRF 2025 Engineering rank band 151–200. B.E./B.Tech branches include Civil, Computer Science, CSE (Artificial Intelligence), CSE and Business Systems, CSE (AR/VR and Media Design), EEE, ECE, ECE (Advanced Communication Technology), ECE (VLSI Design), Information Technology and Mechanical. An MBA is also offered, and separate boys’ and girls’ hostels operate on campus.
Government-quota B.E./B.Tech seats are allotted through TNEA counselling by DoTE, Tamil Nadu, on Class 12 marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with no entrance exam; management-quota seats are admitted by the college. Is R.M.K. Engineering College the same as R.M.K. College of Engineering and Technology or R.M.D. Engineering College?
