Overview

Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, usually called Vel Tech, was founded in 1997 and became a deemed-to-be university in 2008. Its campus is on Avadi–Vel Tech Road in Avadi, in west Chennai, near the Outer Ring Road. Avadi is a large suburb on the Chennai–Arakkonam suburban railway line, so the campus is easy to reach from Ambattur, Poonamallee and central Chennai.

Vel Tech is a private deemed-to-be university with a NAAC A++ grade. It is ranked 87th in the NIRF 2025 Engineering list. B.Tech programmes include Computer Science and Engineering with several specialisations, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. It also offers AI and Machine Learning, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Biomedical and Biotechnology. It also runs MBA, law, commerce and media programmes, as well as postgraduate and doctoral degrees. Students can stay in hostels on campus.

B.Tech admission is through VTUEEE, Vel Tech’s own entrance exam, or through JEE Main scores. Seats are not filled through TNEA. You need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
