Overview

Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) was established in 1997 and occupies a large campus at Rajalakshmi Nagar, Thandalam, on the Chennai–Bengaluru highway corridor close to Sriperumbudur, roughly 35 km west of central Chennai. It is part of the Rajalakshmi group of institutions and draws students from across Tamil Nadu and beyond. The industrial belt around Sriperumbudur and Irungattukottai, home to many manufacturing and electronics plants, lies just a short drive from the campus.

REC is an autonomous college affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, holds an A++ grade from NAAC, and has NBA accreditation for its undergraduate engineering programmes. It is placed in the NIRF 2025 Engineering rank band 101–150. B.E./B.Tech branches include CSE, ECE, IT, AI and Data Science, AI and Machine Learning, CSBS, Cyber Security, EEE, Mechanical, Biomedical, Biotechnology, Aeronautical, Automobile, Civil, Chemical, Mechatronics, Food Technology, Robotics and Automation, and Computer Science and Design. M.E., M.Tech and MBA programmes run alongside, and there are separate boys’ and girls’ hostels on campus.

Government-quota seats are allotted through TNEA counselling conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu, purely on Class 12 marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, so no entrance exam is required; the remaining management-quota seats are filled by the college directly.
