Overview

Saveetha School of Engineering is the engineering arm of the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), located at Saveetha Nagar, Thandalam, on the Chennai–Bengaluru highway near Sriperumbudur, west of Chennai. SIMATS became a deemed university in 2005 and runs medical, dental, law, management, nursing and engineering schools on the same campus. Students sometimes confuse it with Saveetha Engineering College nearby, which is a separate Anna University–affiliated college admitting through TNEA.

SIMATS is a deemed-to-be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, accredited by NAAC with an A++ grade, and it is ranked 45 in the NIRF 2025 Engineering ranking. The engineering school awards its own SIMATS degrees rather than Anna University degrees. B.E./B.Tech branches include Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Information Technology, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, alongside postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and the campus has student hostels.

Admission is handled by SIMATS itself through its own online application and selection process, which relies mainly on Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; it is not part of TNEA counselling.
