Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) was established in 2008 as one of the second wave of IITs created that year. Its permanent campus is at Kandi in Sangareddy district, Telangana, on the north-western fringe of the Hyderabad metropolitan region. The residential campus brings together departments of engineering, science, design and liberal arts, and houses students in hostels on the same site, well away from the congestion of the city core.

IIT Hyderabad is an Institute of National Importance and is ranked No. 7 in the NIRF 2025 Engineering ranking. B.Tech branches include Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Biomedical Engineering, and Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. The institute also runs B.Des, M.Tech, M.Des, M.Sc, M.A. and PhD programmes, and students live in on-campus hostels.

B.Tech admission is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling together with the other IITs, NITs and IIITs. Aspirants first need to qualify JEE Main to sit JEE Advanced, then register on the JoSAA portal and list IIT Hyderabad branches in order of preference.
