Overview
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur was established in 1960 as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, named after the engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, and became an NIT in 2002. Its campus is on South Ambazari Road in the heart of Nagpur, a city at the geographic centre of India with strong rail and air links.
VNIT is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 44, and the only NIT in Maharashtra. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, mechanical, chemical, civil, metallurgical and materials, and mining engineering, and it also offers B.Arch. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.
B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Maharashtra) and Other State quotas. Maharashtra students can compare a VNIT Home State seat with MHT CET options at COEP, VJTI and SPIT. Sign up free to see fees by quota, closing ranks and placement data.
