Overview

Sister Nivedita University (SNU Kolkata) was created under the Sister Nivedita University Act, 2017, passed by the West Bengal legislature. Its campus is at DG 1/2, Action Area I, New Town, near the Biswa Bangla Gate and a short drive from Salt Lake Sector V and the airport. The university is part of the Techno India Group, and it should not be confused with Shiv Nadar University, which uses the same initials.

SNU is a private university recognised by UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act, so it awards its own degrees, and it holds AICTE approval. It is not yet NAAC accredited and is not listed in NIRF 2025. B.Tech options include Computer Science & Engineering with AI-ML, Data Science, Cyber Security and IoT tracks, CS & Business Systems, Electronics (VLSI), Mechatronics, Robotics and Biotechnology. It also runs B.Arch along with law, management, design, pharmacy, science and humanities programmes, and has separate boys’ and girls’ hostels.
