Overview
National Institute of Technology Agartala (NIT Agartala) began in 1965 as Tripura Engineering College and was converted into an NIT in 2006. Its campus is at Barjala, Jirania, about 20 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. It is one of the larger NITs in the North-East by campus area.
NIT Agartala is an Institute of National Importance. It was not placed in the NIRF 2025 Engineering top 100. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, electronics and instrumentation, mechanical, chemical, civil and production engineering, and biotechnology. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.
Admission process
B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Tripura) and 50% Other State quotas.
