Overview

Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, better known as MIT-WPU, is on Paud Road in Kothrud, a busy residential and educational hub in west Pune. The university was created in 2017 under a Maharashtra state act, but its engineering tradition is older: it grew out of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology, which opened in Pune in 1983. Today engineering sits alongside many other schools on the same Kothrud campus.

MIT-WPU is a private state university (degree-awarding) recognised by UGC and placed in the NIRF 2025 Engineering 101–150 band. It offers about 16 B.Tech options, including Computer Science & Engineering with specialisations such as AI & Data Science, Cyber Security and Cloud Computing, Electronics & Communication, Electronics (Semiconductor & VLSI), Electrical & Computer, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Petroleum, Bioengineering and Renewable Energy. Schools of business, law, design and sciences share the campus, and hostels are provided.

As a private university, MIT-WPU runs its own B.Tech admission process, with applications made directly to the university. Class 12 with at least 50% aggregate and 50% in PCM (or allowed combinations), English compulsory; 45% for reserved-category Maharashtra candidates; or a relevant engineering diploma with 60%. A JEE Main, MHT CET or PERA CET score is required.
