Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) was established in 2008 and, after running from a temporary campus in Ahmedabad, moved to its permanent campus at Palaj on the banks of the Sabarmati river near Gandhinagar. The campus is known for its planned green design and is within easy reach of both Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

IIT Gandhinagar is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 25. It is known for a liberal-arts-style undergraduate curriculum that mixes engineering with humanities, design and a foundation programme in the first semester. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, materials engineering, artificial intelligence, and integrated circuit design and technology. The campus is fully residential.

Admission to B.Tech is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling after candidates first qualify JEE Main. Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.

Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Gandhinagar are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank.
