Overview
The Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun was established in 1878 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious forestry research and education institutions in Asia, housing landmark colonial-era architecture alongside modern research laboratories and a globally recognized forest botany museum.
FRI functions as a Deemed-to-be University under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and its degree programmes are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institute conducts research across silviculture, forest genetics, wood science and forest protection.
