Overview
National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) is one of the oldest engineering institutions in India. It began in 1886 as a survey training school, grew into the Bihar College of Engineering, and was converted into an NIT in 2004. Its main campus is on Ashok Rajpath along the Ganga in Patna, close to the city’s historic university area.
NIT Patna is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 53. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, chemical and civil engineering, and it also offers B.Arch. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.
B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Bihar) and Other State quotas; B.Arch uses the JEE Main architecture paper. Eligibility
Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.
Admission process
B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Bihar) and 50% Other State quotas. B.Arch uses the JEE Main architecture paper.
