Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) was established in 2008 and first ran from temporary premises in Patna before shifting to its permanent campus at Bihta, about 40 km west of the city. The campus is close to the Bihta railway station and the Patna–Arrah highway, and it is the only IIT in Bihar.
IIT Patna is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 19. B.Tech programmes cover computer science, artificial intelligence and data science, electrical, electronics and communication, mechanical, civil, chemical, metallurgical and materials engineering, engineering physics, and mathematics and computing. The Bihta campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

Eligibility
Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.
Admission process
Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Patna are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank.
