Overview

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur was established in 1960 as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, named after the engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, and became an NIT in 2002. Its campus is on South Ambazari Road in the heart of Nagpur, a city at the geographic centre of India with strong rail and air links.

VNIT is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 44, and the only NIT in Maharashtra. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, mechanical, chemical, civil, metallurgical and materials, and mining engineering, and it also offers B.Arch. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Maharashtra) and Other State quotas. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Maharashtra) and 50% Other State quotas. B.Arch uses the JEE Main architecture paper.
