Overview

College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) grew out of a survey school started in 1794, which makes it one of the oldest engineering institutions in India. Today it is the main campus of Anna University in Guindy, south Chennai. The large, green campus also holds the university’s head offices and sits close to IIT Madras, Guindy National Park, Kotturpuram and Adyar. Guindy railway and metro stations and the Kotturpuram MRTS station connect it easily to the rest of the city.

CEG is a constituent college of Anna University, a Tamil Nadu state university that awards its degrees and holds a NAAC A++ grade (2023). CEG is not ranked on its own, but Anna University is ranked 20th in the NIRF 2025 Engineering list. B.E./B.Tech programmes cover Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical, Geo-Informatics, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Mining, and Printing and Packaging Technology. Civil and Mechanical are also taught in Tamil. There are postgraduate and research programmes too, and hostels on campus.

Government-quota B.E./B.Tech seats are filled through TNEA counselling, run by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu.
