Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) was established in 1958 and occupies a large residential campus at Powai in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs, set between Powai Lake and Vihar Lake. It was among the earliest IITs created after independence and has grown into a leading centre for engineering, science, design and management education. The Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road connects the campus to both the western and central parts of the city.

IIT Bombay is an Institute of National Importance and is placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 3. Its B.Tech programmes span aerospace, chemical, civil, computer science, electrical, engineering physics, mechanical, metallurgical and materials, energy, and environmental science and engineering, alongside BS and dual-degree options. The institute also runs M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA and PhD programmes, and the Powai campus is fully residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.

Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Bombay are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank.
