Overview
Garden City University (GCU) was established in 2013 under a Karnataka state Act and grew out of the Garden City group of colleges, whose trust dates back to 1992. Its campus is at the 16th kilometre of Old Madras Road in east Bangalore, past K.R. Puram on the way towards Hoskote. The university offers a wide spread of programmes, from commerce and management to sciences, humanities and engineering.
As a UGC-recognised private university, GCU awards its own degrees and is not affiliated to VTU. Engineering is offered through its Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam School of Engineering, with a B.E. in Computer Science and B.Tech programmes in computing specialisations such as Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Data Science and Cyber Security. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available, along with transport, a health centre and sports facilities.
Admission to engineering is through KCET and COMEDK UGET, plus direct admission by the university. Programme names on university websites change often, so check the exact degree title (B.E. or B.Tech) and specialisation shown in counselling before you choose. Passed 2nd PUC / Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics, with at least 45% in these subjects (40% for eligible reserved categories), and a valid KCET or COMEDK UGET rank as applicable; direct admission follows the university's own criteria.
