The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), or JEE Main, is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is India’s largest engineering entrance exam and is held in two sessions each year, usually in January and April. Candidates may write one or both sessions; the better score counts.
What JEE Main is used for
- Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions through JoSAA counselling.
- Qualifying for JEE Advanced: top Paper 1 performers become eligible to write JEE Advanced, the exam for the IITs.
- Other colleges: many state and private universities also accept JEE Main scores.
- Paper 2A / 2B: for B.Arch and B.Planning.
Scores and ranks
Results are published as NTA scores (percentiles), normalised across shifts. An all-India rank is published after both sessions, using each candidate’s best score.
