The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test, or BITSAT, is conducted by BITS Pilani, a deemed university. It is held once a year in two sessions, usually in April and May, as a 3-hour computer-based test at centres across India. Candidates can write one or both sessions, and the better score is used for admission.
What BITSAT is used for
- B.E. programmes: admission to engineering branches at the BITS Pilani campuses in Pilani (Rajasthan), K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad.
- Integrated M.Sc. and B.Pharm: the same test (with Biology in place of Mathematics for B.Pharm) covers BITS’ other first degree programmes.
- Dual degree: M.Sc. students can later add a B.E. degree based on first-year performance, so the entrance score decides your starting programme, not your final one.
- Direct admission: first-rank holders of central and state boards are admitted directly to a programme of their choice without BITSAT.
Counselling and seat allotment
BITS runs its own admission process; there is no central counselling. After the exam, candidates submit a separate admission application on bitsadmission.com with their Class 12 marks and an ordered list of campus and programme preferences. Admission is made purely on BITSAT score (subject to meeting the Class 12 eligibility), and BITS publishes an admit list followed by several iterations through June and July, upgrading or offering seats as others withdraw. Selected candidates confirm their seat online and report to the campus with their Class 12 mark sheet, BITSAT score card and ID proof.
