Overview
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, making it one of the oldest and most respected institutions for social work and social sciences education in Asia. It grew into a full-fledged deemed university offering programmes across social work, human resource management, law, media and public policy.
TISS is a Deemed-to-be University under the UGC Act, with its main campus in Mumbai and additional campuses in Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad. Its programmes are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the institute is known for its strong fieldwork-based pedagogy and placement record in the development and social sector.
