Overview

St. Joseph’s College of Engineering was founded in 1994 and stands on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) at Semmencherry in south Chennai, inside the city’s IT corridor and roughly 15 km from Adyar. Software parks, tech campuses and residential townships line the road on both sides, so internships and industry visits are easy to arrange. The college shares its management with St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology, a separate engineering college, and admits a large first-year batch every year.

It is an autonomous college affiliated to Anna University, with autonomous status since 2020, a NAAC A+ grade (CGPA 3.46) and NBA accreditation for several programmes. It is placed in the NIRF 2025 Engineering rank band 201–300. Its twelve UG programmes include Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Information Technology, AI and Data Science and Chemical Engineering, and it also runs four postgraduate programmes, including an MBA.
