Overview

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) was established in 1989 as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education (then HRD), Government of India, dedicated as a tribute to Sant Harchand Singh Longowal. Located in Longowal town in Sangrur district, Punjab, SLIET was set up to provide high-quality technical education in a rural setting and holds deemed university status.

As a centrally funded institute directly under the Ministry of Education, SLIET offers B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, diploma and doctoral programmes across disciplines including Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Chemical, Food Engineering and Biotechnology. The institute is AICTE-approved and known particularly for its Food Engineering and Chemical Engineering programmes, which are relatively distinctive among Indian technical institutes, alongside NBA-accredited mainstream branches.

Admission to B.Tech programmes is through JEE Main scores followed by the institute’s own counselling process, since SLIET is not covered under the standard JoSAA counselling for NITs/IIITs. Being a centrally funded institute, tuition fees are considerably lower than private universities. The residential campus offers hostel facilities, and the placement cell draws recruiters from process industries, core engineering firms and IT companies.
