Overview

National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, was established in 1960 as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College and became an NIT in 2002. Its campus sits on National Highway 66 at Surathkal, about 20 km north of Mangaluru, and is one of the few engineering campuses in India with its own beach along the Arabian Sea.

NITK is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 17. It offers B.Tech programmes in computer science, artificial intelligence, information technology, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, mechanical, chemical, civil, metallurgical and materials, and mining engineering. The campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Karnataka) and Other State quotas. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Karnataka) and 50% Other State quotas.
