National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal), Warangal

Overview

National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) was established in 1959 as the first of the Regional Engineering Colleges, with its foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It became an NIT in 2002. The campus is at Kazipet on the edge of Warangal city in Telangana, next to the Kazipet railway junction and about 140 km from Hyderabad.

NIT Warangal is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 28, though by JoSAA demand it is consistently among the three most sought-after NITs. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, mechanical, chemical, civil, metallurgical and materials engineering, and biotechnology. The campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Telangana) and Other State quotas. Its Other State CSE seat closed at about 2,400 in 2025. Sign up free to see fees by quota, closing ranks and placement data.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Telangana) and 50% Other State quotas.
