Overview

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) was established in 2010 among the ten new NITs set up that year. After its first batches studied at the mentor institute, SVNIT Surat, it moved to Shillong, where it has run from the Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah. A permanent campus is being built at Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in East Khasi Hills.

NIT Meghalaya is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 83, the highest of the NITs founded since 2010. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Meghalaya) and Other State quotas. Check where your batch will be taught, since the move to Sohra may affect campus facilities. Sign up free to see fees by quota, closing ranks and placement data.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Meghalaya) and 50% Other State quotas.
