Overview

National Institute of Technology Durgapur (NIT Durgapur) was established in 1960 as the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, and became an NIT in 2003. The campus is on Mahatma Gandhi Avenue in Durgapur, a steel and industrial city in Paschim Bardhaman district, about 170 km north-west of Kolkata with direct trains to Howrah.

NIT Durgapur is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 49, and the only NIT in West Bengal. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil, metallurgical and materials engineering, and biotechnology. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (West Bengal) and Other State quotas. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (West Bengal) and 50% Other State quotas.
