<p>Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established in 1985 by an Act of Parliament as India’s national open university, headquartered in New Delhi. It is the largest open university in the world by enrolment, offering distance and online education across hundreds of programmes through a network of regional centres and study centres nationwide.</p><p>IGNOU is a Central Open University recognized by the UGC and its Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB), and many of its professional programmes carry additional approvals from bodies such as the Bar Council of India and the National Council for Teacher Education for specific courses.
