Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT Palakkad) was established in 2015 as the first IIT in Kerala, mentored in its early years by IIT Madras. Its permanent campus is at Kanjikode, near the Palakkad Gap in the Western Ghats, close to the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border and about an hour’s drive from Coimbatore airport.

IIT Palakkad is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 64. B.Tech programmes include computer science, data science and engineering, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. The institute runs with small batch sizes, and the campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

Admission to B.Tech is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling after candidates first qualify JEE Main. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.

Admission process

Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Palakkad are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank.
