Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IIT Bhubaneswar) was established in 2008 and mentored in its early years by IIT Kharagpur. Its permanent campus is at Argul, near Jatni in Khordha district, about 25 km from central Bhubaneswar. Jatni’s Khurda Road railway junction and Bhubaneswar’s airport make the campus straightforward to reach.
IIT Bhubaneswar is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 39. Its academic units are organised as schools rather than departments, and B.Tech programmes include computer science, electrical, electronics and communication, mechanical, civil, and metallurgical and materials engineering, with dual-degree options. The Argul campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.
Admission to B.Tech is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling after candidates first qualify JEE Main. Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.
