Overview

International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) was established in 1998 and stands on Hosur Road in Electronics City Phase 1, opposite the Infosys campus, in south Bangalore. It began as a postgraduate and research institute in information technology and opened its doors to Class 12 students with a five-year Integrated M.Tech programme from 2012. IIIT-B is the highest-placed Bangalore institution in the NIRF 2025 Engineering ranking, at rank 69.

IIIT-B is a deemed-to-be university run as a not-for-profit society, so it awards its own degrees and is not affiliated to VTU. It was accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade in 2021. Undergraduates can choose a four-year B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering or Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, or a five-year Integrated M.Tech in CSE or ECE. The institute also runs M.Tech, M.Sc. (Digital Society), MS by Research and Ph.D. programmes. Both undergraduate programmes are fully residential, with separate hostels for men and women.

Admission to B.Tech and Integrated M.Tech is based on the candidate’s best All India Rank in JEE Main or JEE Advanced, through IIIT-B’s own online seat-allocation rounds rather than JoSAA, KCET or COMEDK; a few seats are set aside for Olympiad training-camp participants.
