Overview

BITS Pilani is the original and main campus of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science. It sits in the small town of Pilani in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, about 200 km west of Delhi. The institute grew out of schools and colleges started by the Birla family in the early 1900s and became a deemed-to-be university in 1964. The campus is fully residential, and almost every student lives in its hostels, called Bhawans.

BITS Pilani is a private deemed-to-be university ranked 11th in NIRF 2025 Engineering, the highest of any private institute. The Pilani campus offers B.E. in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil and Manufacturing, along with B.Pharm and integrated M.Sc programmes. Many students take a dual degree that combines an M.Sc with a B.E. The Practice School programme places students in industry for a semester before they graduate.

B.E. admission is through BITSAT, BITS’s own computer-based test. Seats at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad are filled together through one application, in order of BITSAT score and your campus and branch choices. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English, with at least 75% aggregate in PCM (and at least 60% in each), plus a BITSAT score; state and central board toppers get direct admission.

Admission process

B.E. seats are filled through BITSAT on the BITS admissions portal, with one application and iteration process for the Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses; JEE Main and state counselling are not used.
