Ashoka University, Sonipat was established in 2014 as a private liberal arts and sciences university near Delhi, founded through philanthropic contributions from a large group of donors and built around a multidisciplinary undergraduate curriculum inspired by liberal education models.

Ashoka is a private university recognized under the Haryana Private Universities Act and its programmes are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It follows a majors-minors academic structure across humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and economics, with a strong emphasis on writing, research and interdisciplinary study.
