Overview

VIT Vellore is the main campus of Vellore Institute of Technology. It started in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College and became a deemed-to-be university in 2001. The campus is at Katpadi, on the northern side of Vellore town in Tamil Nadu, about 140 km west of Chennai. It is a large residential campus, and most students live in its hostels.

VIT is a private deemed-to-be university accredited NAAC A++ and ranked 16th in NIRF 2025 Engineering. B.Tech branches include Computer Science and Engineering with several specialisations, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. The campus also offers B.Arch, B.Sc, BBA and integrated M.Tech programmes.

B.Tech admission is through VITEEE, VIT’s own entrance exam. Branch and campus (Vellore, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh or Bhopal) are allotted at VIT counselling in order of VITEEE rank, and VIT Vellore does not admit through TNEA. Eligibility

Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology for select programmes) meeting VIT's minimum marks, and a valid VITEEE rank.

Admission process

B.Tech admission is through VITEEE, VIT's own entrance exam, with branch and campus allotted at VIT counselling in order of rank; seats are not filled through TNEA.
