Overview

National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur) was established in 1986 as the Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur, and became an NIT in 2002. The campus sits on a hilltop just outside Hamirpur town in the lower Himalayan foothills of Himachal Pradesh, with Shimla and Dharamshala each a few hours away by road.

NIT Hamirpur is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 97. B.Tech programmes include computer science, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil, and materials science and engineering, with dual-degree options in some branches. It also offers B.Arch. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Himachal Pradesh) and 50% Other State quotas. B.Arch uses the JEE Main architecture paper.
