Overview

National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT Srinagar) was established in 1960 as the Regional Engineering College, Srinagar, and became an NIT in 2003. Its campus is at Hazratbal, on the western shore of Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan hills in view, making it one of the most striking settings of any engineering college in India.

NIT Srinagar is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 73. B.Tech programmes include computer science, information technology, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil and metallurgical and materials engineering. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students; winters are harsh, and the academic calendar is planned around them.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with separate Home State (Jammu and Kashmir) and Other State quotas. Its Other State cutoffs run much later than NITs of similar rank, which can open a CSE seat to students with ranks well above 20,000. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Jammu and Kashmir) and 50% Other State quotas.
