Overview

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra) was established in 1963 as the Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra, and became an NIT in 2002. The campus is in Kurukshetra, Haryana, a historic town about 160 km north of Delhi on the Delhi–Ambala rail line, and Chandigarh is roughly 90 km away.

NIT Kurukshetra is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 85. Like MNNIT, it draws far more demand than its NIRF rank suggests, especially from north Indian students: its Other State CSE seat closed at about 7,000 in 2025, ahead of several higher-ranked NITs. B.Tech programmes include computer science, information technology, electronics and communication, electrical, mechanical, production and industrial, and civil engineering. Hostels are provided for undergraduate students.

Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Haryana) and 50% Other State quotas.
