Overview

National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) was established in 1964 as the Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, a joint venture of the central and Tamil Nadu governments. It became an NIT in 2003. The large residential campus is on the Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur road, about 20 km from Trichy city, and the city’s airport and railway junction are close by.

NIT Trichy is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 9, the highest of any NIT and the only NIT in the top ten. B.Tech programmes span computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, instrumentation and control, mechanical, production, chemical, civil and metallurgical and materials engineering, and it also offers B.Arch. Hostels are provided for all undergraduate students.

B.Tech seats are filled on JEE Main ranks through JoSAA counselling, with half the seats reserved for Tamil Nadu (Home State) candidates and half for Other State candidates. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (plus Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject) meeting the JoSAA 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile criterion, and a valid JEE Main rank.

Admission process

B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling (and CSAB special rounds for vacant seats) on the JEE Main rank, with 50% Home State (Tamil Nadu) and 50% Other State quotas. B.Arch uses the JEE Main architecture paper.
