Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) was established in 2008 and has its permanent campus on the banks of the Sutlej in Rupnagar (Ropar), Punjab. The town is about 45 km from Chandigarh, whose airport and railway station are the usual entry points for students.

IIT Ropar is an Institute of National Importance placed at NIRF 2025 Engineering rank 32. B.Tech programmes cover computer science, artificial intelligence and data engineering, electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, metallurgical and materials engineering, engineering physics, and mathematics and computing. The campus is residential, with hostels for undergraduate students.

Admission to B.Tech is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted in JoSAA counselling after candidates first qualify JEE Main. Eligibility

Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics meeting the JoSAA/IIT performance criterion (75%, or 65% for SC/ST/PwD, or top 20 percentile of the board), and qualification in JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main.

Admission process

Qualify JEE Main, then appear in JEE Advanced; B.Tech seats at IIT Ropar are allotted through JoSAA counselling on the JEE Advanced rank.
