MET

Overview

The Manipal Entrance Test, or MET, is conducted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence deemed university based in Manipal, Karnataka. It is held once a year in two phases, usually in April and May, as a 2-hour computer-based test. Candidates may write one or both phases, and the better score is used for the merit list.

What MET is used for

• MIT Manipal: B.Tech admission at the Manipal Institute of Technology on MAHE’s main campus in Manipal, Udupi district.
• MIT Bengaluru: the same MET rank is used for B.Tech admission at Manipal Institute of Technology Bengaluru, MAHE’s engineering campus in Yelahanka, Bangalore.
• Other MAHE programmes: MAHE uses MET (with separate papers) for several other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, but the B.Tech paper described here is the engineering test.
• Merit list: MAHE combines the MET score with Class 12 marks, as set out in its brochure, to prepare the rank list used for counselling.

Counselling and seat allotment

MAHE runs its own online counselling after publishing a combined merit list for both phases, usually in early June. Candidates log in, choose their preferred institute (MIT Manipal or MIT Bengaluru) and branches, and seats are allotted by merit rank over about four rounds in June and July. Allotted candidates confirm their seat online and later submit their Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, MET score card and ID proof during document verification at the campus.

Important dates

MET 2027 dates have not been announced yet (as of 25 September 2026); news reports expect MAHE to open registration around late September or October 2026 on manipal.edu. For reference, MET 2026 Phase 1 was held on 13–14 April 2026 (results 16 April) and Phase 2 on 23–24 May 2026 (results 26 May), with the combined merit list released on 8 June and counselling rounds running into July.

Eligibility

Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) from a recognised board with Physics, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects, plus Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or Computer Science as an optional subject. You need at least 50% combined in Physics, Mathematics and the optional subject.

There is no domicile requirement; candidates from any state can apply. Check the MET 2027 brochure for any age condition and for the exact way Class 12 marks are combined with the MET score.

Exam pattern

Syllabus

MET (B.Tech) covers Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, plus English, as per the 2026 MET pattern. Each correct answer earns +4; a wrong MCQ answer costs −1, while wrong numerical answers are not penalised. There are 60 questions for a total of 240 marks.
