Overview

B.Sc. programmes in allied health and paramedical sciences train the technologists who run hospital laboratories, imaging and operation theatres. Common specialisations include Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), Radiology and Imaging Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, Anaesthesia Technology, Cardiac Care, Dialysis Technology, Optometry and Emergency Medical Technology.

Courses usually run three to four years including a clinical internship. Admission is after 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, through NEET-UG, a state or university entrance test, or merit, depending on the institute. The field is regulated under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021.
